(LibertyInsider.org) – When actor Steve Buscemi set out for a stroll through Manhattan’s Kips Bay on May 8, he probably didn’t expect the outing to end with him being transported to Bellevue Hospital for care. However, that’s reportedly exactly what happened after the “Boardwalk Empire” star was violently attacked by a random stranger without provocation.
Buscemi was reportedly minding his own business on 369 Third Ave just before noon when a man in a blue shirt and black pants suddenly approached him. The unknown assailant struck him in the face and then ran off, leaving the 66-year-old actor battered and bruised.

According to a statement from local police, Buscemi was transported to Bellevue Hospital a short time after the attack. The violent attack resulted in bleeding both in and around one of his eyes and significant bruising in the area where he was struck.
Although police initially refused to confirm the name of the victim, a representative for Buscemi did eventually confirm he was involved in a statement to the New York Post. Describing the actor as just “another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” he noted that Buscemi was doing fine and was thankful for everyone’s well wishes.
Local authorities were able to secure a series of photos of the man who attacked Buscemi from surveillance cameras in the area. Exactly who the assailant is, or why he felt the need to attack Buscemi, remains unclear at this time.
Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8411 (TIPS).
Buscemi isn’t the only individual — or even the only actor — to fall victim to an unprovoked assault over the past few months. In a separate incident on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in late March, a man wearing a white balaclava randomly hit Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” colleague Michael Stuhbarg on the back of the neck with a rock.
Stuhbarg, who was out for a run at the time, chased his attacker all the way to the nearby Russian consulate. Xavier Israel, 27, was arrested and charged with assault at that location only a few minutes later. Reports suggest that Israel was already serving parole for attempted robbery when he decided to attack Stuhbarg.
