(LibertyInsider.org) – Violent crime in the US is on a decline, but there are still numerous incidents that occur nationwide every day. In Houston, a targeted shooting killed one man and injured another. The deceased was later determined to be 34-year-old Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas of the Dominican Republic. As it turns out, he has ties to a prominent politician in the country.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 1. Pacheco and three others were leaving a Houston gas station in a black SUV when two vehicles approached the vehicle and opened fire. They fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

In the aftermath, Rojas was dead, and another victim, a 29-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Rojas is the son of Alfredo Pacheco, who serves as the president of the Chamber of Deputies.
The Chamber of Deputies in the Dominican Republic is the country’s lower Congressional chamber. It, along with the Senate, makes up the nation’s Congress. The president is much like the House Speaker in the US, the de facto leader of the chamber and its administrative head. It is not necessarily the leader of the majority party.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) notified Pacheco of his son’s death and “advised him detectives continue efforts to determine possible motives for the shooting.” Authorities are looking for three men in connection with Rojas’ death and have sent out surveillance photos of two of the men holding long guns. Assistant Chief Adrian Rodriguez with the HPD said he believes “the individuals in the Escalade were targeted.”

Pacheco, who has been involved in politics for more than 30 years, posted a message on X, formerly Twitter, announcing the death of his son, who he said “lived outside the country.” He thanked his “friends and colleagues for their solidarity in this difficult time” and asked the media for respect.
