(LibertyInsider.org) – The fight between Texas and President Joe Biden’s administration has reached a new phase. The US Supreme Court recently lifted an injunction against the administration that prohibited Border Patrol from cutting down razor wire that state officials put up. Texas isn’t backing down, though and other states are supporting the Republican governor’s latest announcement.
On January 24, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) issued a statement declaring his state’s constitutional right to defend itself. According to the governor, the president has a constitutional duty to enforce US laws, including those related to immigration. He alleged Biden has told the agencies that fall under the executive branch’s control to “ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants.”
Abbott goes on to say that Biden’s failure to enforce the laws triggered Article 1 Section 10 Clause 3 of the Constitution, which allows the state to circumvent Congress if it is under attack by an invasion. The governor stated that he has “already declared an invasion” of his state by illegal immigrants and has invoked Texas’ right to “defend and protect itself.” That authority, according to Abbott, “supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.”
Democrats began calling on Biden to federalize the Texas National Guard. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt (R) was asked about that possibility during an interview on Newsmax. The governor said he stands with Texas. He made it clear that he and several other states would send National Guard troops to Texas to fight back.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) issued a statement saying the Sunshine State is standing behind Abbott.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) also threw his support behind his Texas counterpart. He said that he has sent hundreds of National Guard troops to help secure the border over the last three years and intends to continue helping Texas.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to the controversy, saying the president continues to try to get something done about immigration at the legislative level. She also accused Abbott of putting Border Patrol agents at risk and said she wouldn’t speak on what the president might do.
