Incident Details and Charges

A tragic event unfolded in Taylor, Michigan, where a 13-year-old girl has been charged as a juvenile with first-degree murder for allegedly killing her 7-year-old sister. The incident occurred in their home near Detroit.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s office has announced the charges, which include premeditated murder, felony murder, and first-degree child abuse.

According to reports, the siblings were left alone at home when an argument erupted. The 7-year-old was attacked in the bathroom and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Following the incident, the 13-year-old girl immediately called her father and then first responders, according to reports.

Taylor Detective Zachary Digiacomo spoke on the case, describing the young teen as “calm” and adding that she “showed no emotion.” The motive for the alleged murder was reportedly related to a note in the bathroom about flushing the toilet.

Prosecutor’s Decision

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy considered designating the girl as an adult but ultimately decided to keep her in the juvenile system. The judge now has the option to sentence her as a juvenile, an adult, or impose a blended sentence. Prosecutor Worthy noted, “Our other option was to keep her in the juvenile system. We opted to do just that.”

Legal Proceedings and Rehabilitation

During a preliminary hearing in juvenile court, the judge ordered the 13-year-old to remain in custody. Under Michigan law, the state has seven years to diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate her until her mandatory release at age 21.

The 13-year-old’s name has not been announced publicly given her age and the charges being filed in the juvenile system. However, the case has garnered significant attention due to the heinous nature of the crime and the young ages of those involved.
