SHOCKING Democrat Admission—”Illegals Come First”

Democratic Party symbol on American flag background.

A resurfaced 2024 MSNBC interview clip featuring Senator Chris Murphy discussing Democratic immigration strategy has ignited a firestorm, with the Connecticut Democrat stating that decades of Democratic immigration policy have “failed to deliver for the people we care about most, the undocumented Americans that are in this country.”

Story Snapshot

  • Sen. Chris Murphy’s 2024 interview describing undocumented immigrants as “the people we care about most” has been weaponized by Republicans as proof of Democratic priorities
  • The clip resurfaced during the 2026 State of the Union when President Trump demanded lawmakers affirm that government’s first duty is protecting American citizens, not illegal immigrants
  • Rep. Seth Moulton invited a Brazilian immigrant whose visa had expired to the State of the Union, prompting DHS to publicly call him an “illegal alien” with “no right to be in our nation”
  • Most Democrats remained seated during Trump’s statement about citizen prioritization while Republicans delivered a standing ovation, creating a stark visual divide

The Words That Launched a Thousand Tweets

Murphy’s phrasing was nothing short of remarkable. Referring to people who entered or remained in the United States illegally as “undocumented Americans” and explicitly identifying them as the primary beneficiaries Democratic immigration policy should serve represents either a staggering communication failure or a candid admission of party priorities. The terminology alone deserves scrutiny. These individuals are not Americans by any legal definition. They are foreign nationals residing unlawfully within American borders, yet Murphy frames them as the Democratic Party’s chief constituency concern.

The conservative account “End Wokeness” weaponized the clip in March 2026, and the response was immediate. Fox News amplified the segment while Republican Senator Bernie Moreno called the approach “sick stuff,” accusing Democrats of using “American workers” as “political pawns” to “protect criminal aliens.” Elon Musk’s characterization was more succinct: “treachery.” The clip provided Republicans with exactly what they needed—a Democratic senator appearing to confirm in his own words what conservatives have argued for years.

State of the Union Showdown Exposes the Divide

The Murphy clip gained renewed traction during President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address, when he challenged lawmakers to affirm that “the government’s first duty is to protect American citizens, not illegal immigrants.” Republicans rose in thunderous applause. Democrats largely remained seated. The optics were devastating for a party trying to moderate its image on border security. That visual alone communicated more than a thousand political ads could, showing Americans exactly where the two parties stand when forced to choose between citizens and illegal immigrants.

But the evening held another controversy. Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts invited 19-year-old Brazilian-born Marcelo Gomes da Silva as his guest. Gomes da Silva had been detained by ICE after his student visa expired. During the speech, the Department of Homeland Security posted on X that Moulton was “planning to bring illegal alien Marcelo Gomes da Silva” and declared he “has no right to be in our nation.” Moulton’s chief of staff, sensing the heavy law enforcement presence and reading the DHS post, escorted Gomes da Silva from the House visitors’ gallery “out of an abundance of caution.”

Actions Speak Louder Than Fact-Checks

Some fact-checkers have attempted to provide cover, noting that the Biden administration implemented policies that decreased illegal crossings by 32 percent and that Harris called for stricter asylum rules. Yet these enforcement measures came only after years of record-breaking border crossings and mounting political pressure. Biden campaigned explicitly on promises of amnesty for millions and pledged to end Trump-era policies that had reduced illegal immigration to historic lows. In a 2019 Democratic debate, Biden encouraged people to “surge” to the border and file asylum claims. The subsequent border crisis was entirely predictable.

The Murphy clip and Moulton incident are not isolated gaffes. They represent a consistent pattern of Democratic rhetoric and policy choices that place the interests of illegal immigrants on par with or above those of American citizens. When Democrats advocate against ICE funding, oppose deportations of individuals with criminal records, extend government benefits to illegal immigrants, and use terminology like “undocumented Americans,” they reveal their true priorities. Murphy simply said the quiet part out loud. His candor provided Republicans with political ammunition precisely because it confirmed what millions of Americans already suspected about where Democratic sympathies genuinely lie in the immigration debate.
