(LibertyInsider.org) – The race for the Republican primary nomination started with a crowded field of more than a dozen candidates. That number has seriously dwindled over the past few months until there were four. After the Iowa caucuses, two candidates – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy – dropped out and endorsed former President Donald Trump. While former U.S. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is still in the race as the lone candidate facing off against Trump, it seems that President Joe Biden believes the 45th POTUS will be the one he faces off against this November.
On Wednesday, January 24, POLITICO reported that Biden is getting the race he wanted even though there are still dozens of caucuses and primaries to go. His campaign is preparing for a rematch of 2020, with the belief that Biden stands the greatest chance of beating Trump over his Republican rivals.
It’s not going to be an easy battle, either, if polls are of any indication. When faced head-to-head, Biden is trailing Trump in some of the biggest battleground states. Then, there’s the fact that there are some Democrats who want a younger, more viable candidate to run instead of the current POTUS. Several have spoken out about Biden’s chances, too, including Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA), who says, “It will be another relatively close auction,” but the economy and the fact that Trump is likely to be the GOP nominee will play in Biden’s favor.
Trump is currently facing many legal battles, both criminal and civil. He has two trials expected to begin this year, though they may be delayed. He’s also waiting on the Supreme Court to hear whether or not states can remove him from the ballots citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, or the “insurrection clause.” Arguments will be heard on February 8.
