Young Cadet Dies During Spring Break

(LibertyInsider.org) – A young cadet from West Point who went missing while visiting Florida over spring break has been found dead. Fort Lauderdale Police (FLPD) discovered the body of Havin Morris in New River on March 25, just two days after his parents first reported him missing. He was only 21 years old at the time of his death.

Morris and his friends reportedly got separated at a nightclub called Dicey Riley’s just after 1 a.m. on Saturday night. They grew concerned about his whereabouts after failing to make contact with him the next morning and eventually reached out to his father, Hollis Morris.

Hollis repeatedly attempted to call his son’s mobile phone but became increasingly alarmed when calls continued to go straight to voicemail as if it had been turned off. The worried father filed a missing persons report with Fort Lauderdale Police later that afternoon.

Local authorities immediately launched an investigation into the young cadet’s disappearance. The FLPD’s social media team appealed to the public for help in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

An FLPD spokesperson told KPIX News that information uncovered during their investigation led them to New River. Fearing the worst, they promptly dispatched a diving team to search the river for human remains.

“Divers located his body on Monday night,” the statement read. “At this time, his death appears to be an accidental drowning, and no foul play is suspected.”

Havin Morris was a bright young man with a promising military career ahead of him, according to his tactical officer, Major Rebecca Gogue. Originally from California, he began working at West Point in 2020. Several of his close friends described him as intelligent, funny, outgoing, and friendly on social media. “Such a wonderful man,” one individual wrote.

Despite the fact that authorities have no reason to suspect foul play at this time, they continue to seek information on the circumstances surrounding Havin’s death. The US Army Criminal Investigation Command is cooperating with FLPD officers on this ongoing joint investigation.
