White House Spokesperson Slams Biden Impeachment Inquiry Hearing as "Embarrassing"

(LibertyInsider.org) – House Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in late 2023 while former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was at the helm. After his departure, House committees continued pursuing the effort. They even subpoenaed the president’s son, Hunter Biden, and Hunter’s business associates. After a recent hearing, the White House called it “embarrassing.”

On Wednesday, March 20, the House held a public hearing regarding the impeachment, in which the younger Biden was invited to appear. He refused the invitation, having provided six-plus hours of testimony in a closed-door hearing last month, but the public event went on as scheduled. The eight-hour proceeding devolved into infighting several times, with witnesses lobbing accusations at each other and some Democrats questioning why the Republicans didn’t just call for a vote if they were so confident in the evidence at hand.

The GOP had two former associates of Hunter Biden appear, Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis, who appeared in a video feed from prison. Both claimed that Joe Biden was involved in his son’s business activities. Bobulinski discussed a meeting he had with the former vice president after he left office in 2017. Notably missing were any discussions of business. Rather, the witness said the pair talked about their families, tragedies, and military service. Galanis was more specific in noting that the elder Biden spoke with Russian Billionaire Yelena Baturina on speakerphone with him present and said he was displaying “access to the Biden brand.”

After the hearing on Wednesday, White House spokesperson Ian Sams said, according to Fox News, that the hearing was “embarrassing” for Republicans and a “waste of time.” He went on to say that there were real problems Americans wanted to see addressed.

In the end, the House Oversight Committee led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said it was going to call on President Biden to testify. It’s unknown where that will happen, given that a White House spokesperson laughed the idea off, so it’s not clear where exactly the impeachment inquiry goes from here.
