Trudeau Receives Warning of Intention to Seek Prosecution

(LibertyInsider.org) – President Joe Biden isn’t the only liberal Western leader taking flack over his response to the Israel-Hamas War. An international justice group recently sent Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Liberal Party of Canada) a warning that it intends to seek prosecution if necessary to protect Palestinian interests and lives.

On November 16, the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) sent an “urgent” notice to Trudeau of the organization’s intention to seek the prosecution of the prime minister and four top administration officials. They included Minister of Justice Arif Virani, Minister of National Revenue Marie-Claude Bibeau, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly.

The group put Trudeau and the ministers on notice that it would refer any evidence they “aided and abetted” Israeli-led crimes against humanity and war crimes against Palestinians to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Third States using Universal Jurisdiction.

Third States refers to non-signatory countries to the Rome Statute, which created the ICC. Universal Jurisdiction is a legal principle that allows international groups and governments to claim criminal jurisdiction over accused individuals regardless of their country of residence or nationality.

The ICJP advised the four officials that they sent the urgent notice in light of the “catastrophic situation” unfolding in Gaza, “clear evidence” of war crimes committed by Israeli officials, and “mass atrocity crimes” committed in Palestinian-occupied Gaza.

The ICJP didn’t allege it had proof of any misconduct/criminal activity on the part of the officials. However, the organization noted that Trudeau’s administration had “continued to express support for Israel’s actions in Gaza” and refused to halt the export of arms to the Israelis. Additionally, the government failed to take any actions barring the recruitment of volunteers from Canada to join Israel’s armed forces.

The ICJP’s 10-page letter concluded with a demand for the Canadian government to call for an immediate ceasefire. The group also asked administration officials to prosecute anyone recruiting Canadian volunteers for the Israel Defense Force (IDF), cancel arms export permits to Israel, and block Canadian charity organizations from using donations to support the IDF.
