Mother Dies of Injury Sustained in Shooting Incident

(LibertyInsider.org) – A Kansas City radio DJ and mother of two has died in the wake of a tragic shooting at a post-Super Bowl party for the Chiefs on Valentine’s Day. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, 41, passed away as doctors fought to save her life in surgery shortly after she was shot in the abdomen when a dispute broke out between a group of event attendees.

Lopez-Gavan, who was best known for her passion for Tejano music and her strong ties to the local arts community, had over 15 years of experience serving as a private event DJ before her death. She spent years volunteering with KKFI Radio Station before officially stepping up to co-host a show called A Taste of Tejano in March 2022. The 41-year-old, who already had a shining reputation for her work, quickly became something of a local celebrity.

Staff at the radio station expressed grief over the loss and sent prayers to Lopez-Gavan’s family on Facebook. “Our hearts and prayers are with her family,” they wrote, encouraging anyone with information on the incident to contact law enforcement officials.

Lopez-Gavan wasn’t the only one to suffer harm as a result of Wednesday’s shooting. At least 22 others suffered injuries during the dispute, including the radio DJ’s own son and her cousin’s two daughters. At least half of the victims were under the age of 16.

While no further deaths have been reported at this time, officials at local hospitals have since confirmed that at least three people are still in critical condition. All of the others were expected to fully recover as of February 15.

Exactly what sparked the dispute between random attendees, at least two of whom are juveniles who are now in police custody, remains unclear. However, a Kansas City Police representative who spoke at a press conference with Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed that did not have ties to extremism or “home-grown terrorism.” Instead, it was the result of an isolated “dispute between several people.”

Police are asking anyone who directly witnessed the shooting, who captured video during the incident, or who may have been injured by the gunfire to contact them at 816-413-3477.
