(LibertyInsider.org) – Rodeo star Spencer Wright and his wife, Kallie, are navigating any parent’s worst nightmare: the loss of a child. Their three-year-old son, Levi, died on Sunday after his parents made the decision to remove him from life support after weeks where he showed no brain activity.
On May 21, the child drove his toy tractor into rushing waters, which dragged him into a creek swollen by Spring runoff. In a statement released by his mother, Kallie, for the first time since he died, she explained that Levi had asked to drive his toy tractor to his grandparents’ house.

She told her son that his grandmother wasn’t home and that she didn’t want him driving through the creek that flowed across the road connecting the houses or on the road. She asked him to ride the toy around the house.
However, she said that Levi routinely drove through shallow water on the road. She mentioned that the gully across the concrete road was dry most of the year. At just three years old, the boy wouldn’t have understood how deep or fast the water ran, fueled by melting snowpack from nearby mountains.
Kallie said she only went into the house for a few minutes as her son drove off on his toy. She called it “a decision that will haunt [her] for the rest of [her] life.”
Sheriff Cody Black of the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office said his office received a report that a child had driven a toy into the water around 6 p.m. local time. Multiple local agencies responded, including the Sheriff, Beaver County Search and Rescue, Utah Highway Patrol, Beaver Fire and Ambulance services, and volunteers. Responders quickly located the boy and administered resuscitation.
They worked to stabilize the child at Beaver Valley Hospital while awaiting Life Flight to transfer him to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Three days later, Levi opened his eyes and moved his head slightly, but MRI and EEG results and lack of further progress soon dashed his parents’ hopes. The couple decided to let Levi go on June 2.
“We will miss him every second of every day down here,” Kallie said.
Spencer won the 2014 Rodeo Championship. In 2023, he ranked 35th worldwide, according to ProRodeo.
