(LibertyInsider.org) – With the presidential election just months away, it’s likely that abortion will be a hot-button issue for both candidates. President Joe Biden has been clear in his stance that he supports federal protection for the procedure. Until recently, reports indicated that Former Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump might back national restrictions or bans on abortion, but a recent video seems to contradict this idea.
Trump recently released a video on his Truth Social page, where he goes into detail about his particular stance. In the four-minute-plus footage, he discusses how he helped overturn Roe v. Wade, something he claims “all legal scholars, both sides, wanted and, in fact, demanded be ended.” Then, he goes on to say that the matter is now up to the states and “the will of the people,” rather than endorse any sort of a national ban.
Donald Trump said abortion should be left to the states, betting he can neutralize Democrats’ most animating issue and keep his rematch with President Biden focused on immigration and the economy https://t.co/hHeJS8r1rv https://t.co/hHeJS8r1rv

Bringing Democrats into the matter, Trump claimed the Left is the radical party in regard to the matter, supporting abortions “up to and beyond the ninth month” and even favoring “execution after birth.”
The former president also addressed in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and said the Republican Party wants to make it easier to have babies, not more difficult. He acknowledged that the Alabama legislature was quick in its response to preserve IVF treatments after its state Supreme Court ruled that embryos are “extrauterine children,” causing many health centers and doctors to stop offering the service.
The issue is likely to follow both candidates all the way to the election. Polls as recent as February of this year show that 71% of registered voters say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, per FiveThirtyEight. In 2022, only 36% of registered voters were in favor of the Supreme Court overturning the landmark case, rolling back federal protections, and 51% said the issue would play a major factor in who they cast their vote for.
There are other issues that Americans put ahead of abortion, however, such as immigration and the economy, both of which the Biden Administration has come under fire for. It remains to be seen how Trump’s stance will affect him at the ballots come November.
