(LibertyInsider.org) – The Colorado Supreme Court judges who handed down a ruling disqualifying former President Donald Trump from running in the 2024 presidential election are reportedly facing death threats. Authorities in Denver are collaborating with the FBI to investigate the threats while also ramping up patrols near the homes of the affected judges.
On December 19, the Colorado Supreme Court concluded that Trump’s actions on January 6 constituted insurrection and, as a result, violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The decision, which passed in a remarkably close 4-3 vote, immediately sparked criticism. While Trump’s supporters were extremely vocal in their opposition, labeling it election interference, several Democrats felt it was unjust, too. They took issue with the court’s assumption of guilt, pointing out that the former president remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The nonpartisan advocacy group Advance Democracy monitored the internet, including Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, for reactions in the wake of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling. In an exclusive interview, spokesperson Daniel Jones told NBC News the organization identified a flood of “significant violent rhetoric” across multiple sites.
One user suggested killing and beheading the four judges responsible for the ruling while also slam-dunking a judge’s baby “into the trashcan.” Another on The Donald suggested that the only way to change the status quo was to “kill these f***ers.”
Many of the inflammatory threats were posted alongside suggestions for how to harm the judges. Advance Democracy’s final report purportedly included screenshots of messages recommending the use of firearms, hollow-point bullets, explosives, and ropes.
Users also doxxed the Colorado judges, sharing their contact information and physical addresses. While it wasn’t immediately clear whether anyone had actually taken action on this information, local authorities were concerned enough to ramp up patrols.
Trump also responded to the ruling in a series of posts on Truth Social. The former president accused the Biden administration of weaponizing the Justice Department for political gain and suggested that it was engaging in election interference. However, it is critical to note that he did not issue threats against anyone involved or advocate for violence.
